What does InterAct do with these used cell phones and tablets?

InterAct collects used cell phones for the use of their clients. A discreet 2nd cell phone can be used to dial 911 in the event an abusive spouse/partner is managing their cell phone and its use.

Used cell phones have issues. They can have dying batteries, connectivity or performance issues. Finding suitable chargers and cords are a problem as well. InterAct has abandoned this practice. They now contract out with a cell phone & tablet recycling center. They send the collected old devices to the recycling business. The business determines each devices value for resale by device model, age and condition. The business then sends InterAct a check for the devices. InterAct in turn purchases disposable burner phones (i.e. TracFone) for distribution to clients. These phones do not require a carrier service or minute cards to dial 911.

How to Permanently Erase Data (reset, data wipe) from a donated Cell Phone

Wiping data from a cell phone or tablet is important when giving away or trashing a device. This is common knowledge, what is not so common is how to wipe it to its original default settings. The original default settings sets it up to what it looked like when it was brand new without any personal data or added apps.

Due to security and privacy concerns, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to wipe a device for someone to wipe a device for someone who is NOT the owner of the device. In the past, we have wiped donated cell phones as a service for donors who are not familiar with wiping a cell phone.

Unfortunately, we need to discontinue this service due to the phones security features.
